I have a glass pitcher with a silver top, with a lid something like the lid on a beer stein (a thumb lever for opening), with a strainer in the spout and graceful silver handle that goes from the silver top to midway on the glass. It holds about 2 liters. The silver top is plain but the glass is slightly beveled. The silver top has been fitted over the neck of the glass pitcher. There are no markings on the bottom, but inside the lid of silver there is a crown, underneath that are scripted initials, E L, underneath that is the word Germany and under that is a very small box with what appears to be letters not numbers, and finally a blank rectangular box, maybe for monogramming. I am sure it’s not an antique, maybe something made for hotel use because of its large size and weight. Perhaps for serving ice water or juice with pulp, hence the strainer in the spout. I have searched the web trying to get info on German silver hallmarks with no success. I am curious as to who made the piece. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks! - IP: Logged |
