Hello, I'm afraid the marks are meaningless. On the upside, they do give us a good idea of when the spoon was made. During the late 19th century Hanau, Germany was a center for making of reproduction and fantasy silver pieces, made to look old. Your spoon is a good example of such wares. The Hanau silversmiths copied original pieces from Medieval times up to the 18th century, and also blended different styles to create fantasy pieces. Many of the pieces would be distressed to look authentically old. The marks are often copies of real ancient marks, but of three marks on a piece one might be French, another German, and another Italian! Anyway, your piece is almost certainly a Hanau product, and the marks mean nothing. I hope this helps! Brent IP: Logged |
