I have a small brite-cute twist spoon with hallmarks that I don't recognize. Do these ring a bell with anyone? Thank you. IP: Logged |

Aren't these similar to marks on a spoon which you posted a while back? Mercury head, lion, anchor O E marks? I can't be sure as the photo is no longer there! But, if so, they are Dutch. IP: Logged |

Hi there, Definitely Dutch, lion w/2 for .833 silver, head indicating tax was paid, date code for 1923, last mark is hard to make out - possibly the the town where assayed or a maker. Cheryl ;o) IP: Logged |

Tardy shows this as being 833 fine and the date is probably 1847. Does anyone know if there is an additional way of telling city of manufacture from these marks? IP: Logged |

Hi Dale, If you check Tardy again, the 1847 "N" has serifs, and this spoon's mark is the 1923 sans serif "N". I have a similar piece from 1908. Cheryl ;o) IP: Logged |

I fired off a quick e-mail to the Dutch Assay Office or "Waarborg". Here is their kind reply: The marks are Dutch. Kind regards, Jan van Pelt IP: Logged |
