I picked up this spoon over the weekend, but it is unmarked and I am unsure of its origin and exact age. The front has a raised flower design, the reverse is decorated with a rather crude chased shell motif. Also the back is inscribed "CAB". The monogram style reminded me of some Dutch or Scandinavian inscriptions I've seen.

It does look very European, and very likely 18th century. The pricked or dotted initials are common on Scandinavian silver; I haven't handled enough Dutch silver to know much about it. The lack of any hallmarks does suggest a Scandinanvian origin as well. Norway, perhaps? A neat piece, regardless. Brent IP: Logged |
