I have a pair of Silver Salts with clear glass liners. There is a 'Large Guarantee' mark which appears to be the Minerva 950 mark of 1838 onwards. There is also a partial lozenge mark which appears to start with an 'E'. I think the whole mark would have read 'E S', because the makers name and address is stamped on the base as well. This is 'Merite', followed by 'E Sanner Sn, 3 Rue de 4 Septembre, Paris'. The glass liners are about 45 mm high, and the silver holders are about 33 mm high and about 40 mm in diameter. I have tried to photograph them, but can't get sufficient resolution with my camera. They are very much in the Rococo style, and very ornate. Does anyone know anything about this manufacturer, or know how old the Salts may be? Thanks for your help, Steve. IP: Logged |

Poking around the web a bit I can find little information beyond that 'Merite' was the predecessor to E. Sanner with the latter being active late in the 19th century. Going by the two items I found Sanner produced higly ornamented items that appear to be still prized today. IP: Logged |
