I'm researching a recent acquisition and find myself playing the game of match the form to the marks and see if it all adds up, and as frequently happens have reached a dead end. I believe this 4.5" bowl is Swedish, from the town of Halmstad, and possibly dates from 1696. The first mark is a crowned sheaf of wheat (crown top worn) as shown in Tardy pg 379. Then there is what is probably a maker's mark (possibly F T); date letter H, then a zigzag test mark. The form and marks all seem plausible for the date. Would appreciate other opinions.

Hose_dk: thanks for the info. If I can find the bowl I'll take a closer look at the maker's mark and see if JF works. IP: Logged |
