I am trying to identify the makers mark and pattern name on a lunchon set. The knife blades have Engelswerk, Solingen,Foche followed by Rosifrei. The crecent and crown are part of the mark followed by a circle with a shevron design inside the circle. The pieces are very elaborate and highly embossed with roses. This set has 10 pieces to each place setting has 5 different size spoons,3 forks and 2 knifes to the place setting. Plus 3 sugar spoons. I would also like to get and idea of value. I appreciate any and all help and thank you. ------------------ IP: Logged |

Engelswerk, a steel goods factory founded by C. W. Engels, was one of the largest distributors of knife blades and other cutler's wares in Germany at the turn of the century. Their great success came through their ingenious direct mail order system wherein they bypassed retailers and sold directly to consumers; sort of the Sears-Robuck of Germany. They were located in Foche, an industrial city on the outskirts of Solingen. "Rostfrei" means, as might be guessed, "Rust-Free". You can find out more about Engelswerk (unfortunately in German) at: Engelswerk The silver part of your set, however, was probably made by someone else. A good photograph of the silver mark and the pattern would be needed to even try to identify them, though the pattern sounds like it might be the ubiquitous German "Hildesheimer Rose." As for a valuation, please check the forum guidelines; members are not permitted (and, without the proper conditions for examination, not able) to provide estimates. IP: Logged |

Thank you so much for the information you provided. I've had this set for many years since I had a small shop. Can you help identify the pieces? I know each service contains 5 spoons, an ice tea spoon, a soup,a salt, and a tea spoon. The others I can't identify It's size is in between the salt and the tea spoon. Could it be a coffee spoon? Thank you again, hopefully it will enable me to research and find more info, and nail down the pattern name..Where would you date the set? 19th or 20th century? IP: Logged |
