Hi there, I have come across this spoon which only has two marks - the number 12 and a stylized K or H. Any Ideas?

Okay, I'm no expert, but perhaps I can provide some very basic info. The "12" mark looks like a fineness mark on the Loth system (16 Loth = 100%, or 1.000, silver). So 12 Loth is .750 silver. Countries that used this system made items mostly in 12 Loth and 13 Loth (.8125 silver). These marks were most typically used by Austria-Hungary in the 18th and 19th centuries. Countries that also used the 12 Loth mark were Germany, Czechoslovakia, and Poland, in the same general time period. Perhaps someone with more extensive references will chime in. IP: Logged |
