Hi. I have what I think is a French silverplated platter. On the back it has some hallmarks. What info I could find on the internet leads me to believe this item was made before the 1830's. Does anyone here know anything about French hallmarks? I would love to hear your thoughts. These 5 items are on the back: 1. Words - A. Boulenger I have also included a photo (hopefully I posted it correctly). Also, what type of material did they silverplate back in those days?

Adolphe Boulenger was a nickel refiner and producer with a plant at Créteil and another for finishing and silverplating at the Rue du Vert-Bois in Paris. He took over from a M. Boulenger-Hautin in 1864.
If you read French there is a fascinating contemporary account of the company taken fron Julien Turgan: Les Grandes Usines, 1881, at Adolphe Boulenger (click here) IP: Logged |
