Hello: I wonder if someone can help me identify a silver set that was given to me by an Aunt. The pieces are oversized and appear to be gold under the silver. There are many types of spoons and forks. (varying shapes and sizes) The hallmark reads: Klaipeda *800. There is an irregualr circle with the letters se in the center. I believe the set to be at least 50-60 years old. Thank you.

Hmmm. Well, Klaipeda is a city in Lithuania, which was under Russian control from 1947-1991. The "800" would seem to indicate .800 or 80% silver, a common European fineness, but that you say it "appear[s] to be gold under the silver" tells me that it is more likely to be silver plate, as do the absence of any other marks. The "se" in an irregular circle is probably a maker's mark. Can you post a photo of the item and the mark?

Thank you for responding to my message. I would love to comply and send a picture but I do not have the know how to transfer a picture to the computer. I will ask my son when he returns home next week if he is able to help me with that. Thanks again.
