Can anybody identify the maker of this wonderful German silver and amethyst Arts & Crafts style handled basket?

The marks include the German crescent & crown, 800, product number, and the Austrian import mark used 1891-1901. It seems like somebody scratched over the maker's or retailer's name, although the last few letters appear to be WUNDRA, and the first letter is probably M. Also present is an "X" in a box, another mark I don't recognize.

Any ideas?

The "X in a box" trademark is that of Philipp Wondra, G.m.b.H. [Gesellschaft mit beschränkter Haftung, essentially the same as Inc. or Ltd.], jeweler & goldsmith of Darmstadt. Don't know much about him, other than he is not listed in Neuwirth's German gold, silver & metalsmith's trademark registry which covers the 1875-1900 period, but is listed in my handy 1925 German jeweler's directory, with the information above.

The "M" doesn't appear to be part of "Wondra" (which it most assuredly is) and if it is the mark directly below the center of these two that you can't identify, it appears to me to be a second, different crown & moon struck diagonally. I think this goes with the "M" who was probably the retailer or exporter.

Hope this helps!
