Good evening- I do not know if this is the right place (Cont. Silver)to ask, maybe it is not Continental Silver. I found this fishfork and knive at a garagesale for very little money, although I only collect Russian silver, I could not go away without buying it. My question is: where is it from? I enclose two fotos, hoping it will work. Any help very welcome! Sazikov2000 Fotos: IP: Logged |

Page 61 of McGrew shows this mark and attributes it to James S. Vancourt of New York City c1852. Mr. Vancourt was in partnership with Albert Coles’ nephew, William L. Coles from 1848 until about 1852 and then continued on his own. He used dies from Albert Coles and your lovely set bears some resemblance to the Jenny Lind pattern of Albert Coles. Welcome to the world of American silver. IP: Logged |
