This mark has eluded me for years, hope someone can help me with it. The piece I'm showing is from my set of 12 enameled demitasse spoons, but I have several pieces with this mark, including one piece of jewelry, and all have enamel decoration. Really no question that the pieces are Danish or Norwegian. Can't seem to get decent pictures today, so also posting a sketch of the mark. Not sure what it's supposed to be, sometimes looks like hammers or hooks crossed over an anvil, sometimes I see an eagle, and sometimes it just looks a crawly bug. Cheryl IP: Logged |

I asked around a little by the few Scandinavian silver collectors I know, but had no success. They all knew this mark, but do not know if it is a townmark (what most of them think) or a master´s mark. Some think it is from Marius Hammer, others think it is from D. Andersen, both from Norway. They only knew it is not from Denmark. They told me it is typical Arts&Crafts style, very new but no "tourist silver". They call this mark: crossed hammers over an eagle. There are no further informations I can give you. I enclose a foto of the mark Sazikov2000 IP: Logged |

Thanks for the effort! I'd run across that picture of the mark and the comments on the modernsilver site, even though it's much clearer than on any of my pieces, still not quite sure what it's supposed to be. Have several pieces with the mark and all are of the quality you'd expect in Marius Hammer or David Andersen pieces. Not sure what you mean by "very new"? Cheryl ;o) IP: Logged |

With "very new" I mean contemporary = the last 10 years. Sazikov2000 IP: Logged |

Would have to respectfully disagree with dating pieces with this mark to the last ten years. Identifying the maker would certainly help in determining age, but I've collected 20th century Scandinavian silver for over 25 years and have a pretty good feel for it. Don't believe any pieces that I've seen with this mark would date past the mid-century mark, I'd probably guess not much later than the 1930s. At any rate, I've owned the set of demitasse spoons and one of my other pieces for more than 20 years. Thanks again for trying to help. Cheryl ;o) IP: Logged |

Just a quick note, this maker was IDed for me on another forum as C. Bergs, Eftf. of Oslo, Norway (1920-60),the mark appears to be a stake anvil with crossed hammers. ~Cheryl IP: Logged |
