Hi guys, This is one of the silver patterns I use at home, and I do like it a lot. I have determined that it is from Austria, and is modernist movement, but I would like to know who the maker is. I believe the maker's mark is the goblet shaped mark between the country mark (Austria, .800 silver, after 1925) , and the "800" mark. I think the word beneath, "handgeschm'edet", means "hand made" , but I am not 100% sure. I would appreciate any help you can provide. Thanks as always. Marc

Hi there Sazikov 2000, Thanks for your help on this Austrian maker. I am running across more Austrian mid century silver flatware and I am at a completre loss when it comes to finding manufacturers. Is there a reference work that may be purchased, or a convenient web site that would have this information. Thanks so much for your help. Respectfully, Marc Cutcher IP: Logged |

Mr. Vaugoin (just recently deceased) wrote a book: Silber von A-Z. I am sure you can buy a copy. They also have an illustrated list of their patterns. The firm is now under the management of Mr. Vaugoin jr. You might want to write to him. Plus there is an extensive illustrated list of flatware patterns in Lanz-Schmid- Strahalm: Silber der österreichisch-ungarischen Monarchie,Graz 1987 ISBN 3-900526-08-7. ------------------ IP: Logged |

I seem to recall passing mention here a few months ago of a book on Austrian makers -- I even looked into it, but decided it was too expensive given my needs. Sazikov unfortunately left the forums some months ago.... IP: Logged |

Got it, in a response from ozfred on an Austrian ladle. It's a CDROM, but covering only Vienna, not all of Austria, and only up to 1921. Viennese Gold and Silversmiths from 1781 to 1921 and Their Marks, if we're lucky, will take you right there -- it's €28 plus shipping, not that bad after all. IP: Logged |
