Now back to the story. This spoon came from my friend Vic, who is latvian son of a wealthy latvian lawyer. He has at about 10 partial russian flatware sets (many of which are better than this) that he inherited from his parents, but many of the pieces were lost or traded during WW2. He has many different Russian pieces, most of which he has no clue about. He also collects many antiques to long to discuss here. He has some serving pieces that are of high quality, with a mark that starts with the same 0 with the / slash similar to that of the mark of faberge, but can't quite find it right now Anyways, I will be posting pictures of some of his pieces for him as time allows b/c he lives a fair ways away from me, plus my scanner works well, but I need a better camera. The spoon is from Vilnius, Lietuva, the preferred name for what is better known to English speakers as Vilno, Lithuania. The marks (in reverse order, going right to left) are:

Via e-mail: Hi Winston, WOW!! I had no thoughts that the spoon would have been made in a neighboring Baltic country. In second thoughts it makes sense considering that the Baltic countries were under Russian rule prior to 1918 and Cyrillic punch marks would have been used on silver wares. Thanks for your help. Regards, Vic. IP: Logged |
