Is there anyone that can describe or (better) publish the silver hallmarks from Lattey Brothers & Co. (India half of XIX century)? Thank you IP: Logged |

I don't have a copy, but have you tried the book by Wynyard Wilkinson "Indian Silver 1858-1947. Silver from the Indian sub-continent and Burma by local craftsmen in Western forms"? IP: Logged |

Right Author, wrong book, Kimo. The most information is in "The Makers of Indian Colonial Silver" published in 1987. Lattey Brothers; Arthur Pittar Lattey etc, also appear in "Indian Colonial Silver" pub.1973 but the latter is essentially a picture book. IP: Logged |

Many thanks for the correction. I had only heard about the author and the book I mentioned - I've not seen it. IP: Logged |

The mark for Lattey Brothers & Company is LB&Co, usually with the LB over the Co, and usually accompanied by pseudo english hallmarks (lion passant and capital B or fouled anchor). Lattey Brothers operated between 1843 and 1855, from 10 Government Place, Calcutta. My source is the 1973 Indian Colonial Silver book by Wilkinson, which was limited to 1000 copies. IP: Logged |
