Hello, I have a small, (38mm) silver watch bearing the marks .800 which I understand, and under this mark, a wood grouse or peacock stamped in a shield.I cannot find any information on this type of stamp. Please help!. Alan. IP: Logged |

The Swiss grouse mark indicating 800 fineness has been used with various cartouches since the 1880s. Fawn IP: Logged |

Thanks Fawn, Below the grouse is a rectangle containing the letters R or B followed by 8H, is this significant, and does it help in dating the fob watch?.The watch is key wound, and is the grouse still used by the Swiss today, or does it only apply to a particular period?. Best wishes, IP: Logged |

There are many maker's with an "R" or "B" mark. The 8H could be a model or inventory number of some sort. The grouse mark is still used to day for 800 silver as far as I know. The style of the watch should give you some clues to the time frame. Fawn IP: Logged |
