Hello & thank you for your quick reply. Sorry about doing the picture thing incorrectly. It's urgent because I wish to use the tea set as a wedding gift and since it belonged to an English aunt of mine I had always assumed it was English. When I checked the hallmarks today I realized it was made in Mexico! I don't want to give a wedding present that may not even really be sterling silver despite what it says on the underside of the pot. That would be terribly embarrassing. Unfortunately I know next to nothing about silver, porcelain being my passion of choice. Any info would be gratefully & humbly received, bad_kitty

The marks on your set indicate that the maker claims it to be Sterling - the 0.925 is the percentage of silver in the Sterling alloy. Almost certainly it is solid silver; whether or not it actually meets the Sterling standard is another matter. Perhaps one of our regular members who is knowledgeable about modern Mexican silver will recognize the trademark and know whether the maker has a reputation for reliability, or whether the mark in the upper right, which I cannot make out, is a guarantee mark of some sort. Thank you verrrry much, swarter As long as it is solid silver it's fine! more info would be nice but that was the main thing. After all I want to look really generous at the wedding reception IP: Logged |
