I have a set of 6 teardrop shaped candle holders that hold skinny little candles and a flat edge on the bottom so they tilt in each direction. They were my grandmothers, and I think they are from the 50's. Each is appx 170 grms; 2 1/2" high. Each is marked at the bottom as follows: DANSK Designs Denmark 1HQ I can not tell if they are silver or silver plate - and would love to know. I have seen reproductions in silver plate; but what is the 1HQ mean? I have even tried to contact Dansk directly, without any success. ANY HELP SO MUCH APPRECIATED! THANKS!! IP: Logged |

They're silverplate, the "1HQ" is actually "IHQ", the initials of Jens H. Quistgaard, the first designer for Dansk when they started in 1954. Born in 1919, a Georg Jensen apprentice, believe he's still designing today. Not sure when they were first made, but can remember these being sold from the mid '60s well into the '70s, may have continued to be produced even later.
