Can anyone tell me what the hall mark on some spoons mean that I have ? A corcle of tiny stars or dots, inside is the letters GI, under that is 820 and under that is S Then next hallmark is a capital H, nestled in the top of the H is a smaller C. nestled underneath the H is a small F. Am going blind after 3 weeks of net research. thanks IP: Logged |

Hi there Hiilhole, GJ within a dotted circle is George Jensen.. Denmark. The 820 is probably the quality (82% silver). The rest of the marks I do not know without seeing them. This should be a start though. Glad to help.. Marc IP: Logged |

Without fotos it always is difficult to give an exact answer! The GJ (in fact it looks like GI) with a dotted circle is the logo of Georg Jensen, Denmark, in use from 1910 to ca.1925. The next hallmark you mentioned is not C over H, it is G over A! It is the designer´s mark of GUNDORPH ALBERTUS (1887-1970). Gundorph Albertus worked for the Georg Jensen Silversmithy for 40 years. From 1926 to 1954 he was the assistant director and as such, supervised the company´s produktion making sure that all pieces produced met his high standards of craftmanship. He began his career in 1905, as a chaser (the craftsmen who put ornamental lines and shapes on silver objects). From 1908 to 1911 he studied silversmithing in Munich (Germany) and Paris (France) and when he returned to Denmark he worked as a chaser at the Georg Jensen silversmithy also studying sculpture at the Royal Danish Akademy of Fine Arts from which he graduated in 1915. Albertus became Georg Jensen´s brother in law when he married Jensen´s wife Johanne´s sister. (Mrs. Albertus was also the sister of Harald Nielsen the artistic director of the firm after Jensen´s death in 1935. Nielsen and Albertus worked together for many years. Hope that helps. The mark is, in all likelihood, Georg Jensen, the "GI" in the dotted circle was used from roughly 1915-30, "J" and "I" were often used interchangeably in Scandinavian countries. The "820" is probably "826", the Danish silver standard at the time. The "CFH" should be the Danish assay-masters mark for Christian F. Heise who was in office from 1904-32. Pictures would be lovely!
