I have noticed 2 items on ebay which I am sure are Mexican sterling (with the hammered handmade effect and the rose with leaf repousse work are all present) but the hallmarks indicate manufacture from different countries. One was a tray which I am certain was Mexican (Maciel or Taxco style), as I have a similar one but the hallmarks were English. The rough handmade character of the tray was clearly not English, but the hallmarks were English. Then another tea and coffee service which had marks from a European country. Mexican silver is rather recognizable with its heavy weight and handmade hammered look and simple repousse design. European especially English silver looks very "finished" as opposed to looking "handmade". IP: Logged |
