We visited with some friends this weekend and one of them shared with us
some silver pieces that had belonged to her mother. She told us that these
pieces had been a gift to her father in the late 1930's from the "Old Shah
of Iran." Her father had been an architect in Iran during that time. We
don't know much about this genre of silver and Tardy's only showed the marks for 900 and 840 silver fineness. Since Iranian silversmiths were only required to be licensed by the Precious Metals Assay Office beginning in 1967, we interpret that the 900 and 840 marks also date to 1967 and after. Does anyone have any information about the marks found on the pieces that we saw that are pictured below with the marks?

Please note that we rotated the mark 90 degrees because we're not sure which way is up.

How beautiful!

Is the set for tea? It looks like a cold-drink set rather than a hot-drink set, but I assume it's not for wine or other alcoholic beverages because of the Muslim prohibition against alcohol, yes?

The upper left hand corner mark looks most correct for the way to look at the quality mark.

Hello June!

Don't know if this will be of any help but here goes. Maybe it could help with where to look.
I have a large silver tray that has similar (maybe), marks. I was also told it had been a wedding gift.
A friend who's son is studying in Iran states the words are Arabic (not Persian, as I had thought), and are probably best translated in English as a "gift (a 'bride-gift' or wedding gift) from ..........". It could also be a "gift BY (instead of 'from') .......

Let us know what you find, or may have already found out.
