[26-1242]

I recently purchased this: Continental silver hinged box repousse body with panels of castle and landscape design. The lid and ends with figures of bare breasted woman, all set with cabochon semi-precious jewels, including turquoise along with undefined amber an pink stones. The bottom of this has #13 stamped in an oval with two other undecipherable touch marks, possibly from Austria-Hungary empire. Missing one foot, finial lose, interior with vermeil finish. 7.5" high x 7.5" long, 25 TO. I'd like some input as to age/more info on origin/info on jeweled mounts? Thanks for any help.

Sounds great--but we can't do much without a picture. Vienna produced lots of cool stuff in this style in the 1880s+, but you never know.

Stan,

It would be helpful if you could post a closeup of the marks.

The 13 is probably a loth mark, a system of marking silver content used in the Austrian empire and other German speaking lands through the middle of the 19th century. 13 loth silver was 81.25% pure silver. The other marks in the oval should be for the town in which the piece was made/assayed and possibly a date. If you can post a photo of the mark, we may be able to tell you more.

Good luck,
Tom
