[IMG] Hello all, Here is a nice little old spoon that has been puzzling me for some time. Stylistically I would say it is a continental European spoon from the mid 18th C. However, the marks are simply [GF] and [IW] in rectangles on the front of the handle. There are no assay marks or test scratches. Does anyone have an idea as to what nation this might be from? There is something currently on an auction site that is quite close in form and has double struck marks in the same spot... they look European to me too. IP: Logged |

several danish IW but strange with the other mark. My idea is mid late 1700 with that spoon. 2 candidates Jens Haansen Winding master copenhagen 1702 mentioned 1711 - so he should be to old. And we miss monthmark, guardein and town. another candidateJens Weilgaard born 1785 master january 12th 1838. But he works in Holstebro from 1809 but GF ?? could GF be where he worked. Unusual. RARE DOUBLE-MARKED AMERICAN 18THC COIN SILVER SPOON The auction has ended and it did not sell as a US coin spoon - I wonder why? It has different marks from this one but exactly the same form and marks in the same place... IP: Logged |

the shape is not uncommon not rare (normal I have some 20 different). Double marking neither - in Denmark yes, but not in general. IP: Logged |
