[26-1111] Please can someone help identify the marks on this gilt lined silver cup. I just cant find it myself. I would love to know which country it comes from and how old it is. It was in a box of Rubbish at a local auction. I wonder if it might be Russian? Many thanks IP: Logged |

Hard to make out the marks Wendy. To my eyes the large mark looks like a little elf type man and the smaller a squirrel. Now I would imagine that is far from what they really are. lol. Can you discribe what they really look like? Interesting tho IP: Logged |

Thanks for your help Scott. These were very hard to photo I'm afraid. The large one looks like either an old fashioned water pump or a man kneeling down with a hat and long train coming off it !!!! The small one does look a bit like a squirrel or a fox. Well I'm truly foxed anyway. IP: Logged |

Thank you Venus, I thought I could work out its Origin from the distinctive handle but having trawled through hundreds of silver cups on the internet I'm none the wiser. It gives me the feel that it might be Eastern European??? Best wishes IP: Logged |

wendlekins, It's very hard to tell from your photo, but if you rotate the picture it looks to be a Portuguese mark. IP: Logged |

Many thanks Richard. I have looked on the internet and seen the larger mark now as Portuguese. Because it is so plain I had wrongly thought it was from an earlier in date. Many thanks for helping me. Best wishes IP: Logged |

I can add that the eagle’s head here was in use until 31 Dec 1984. Also, the maker’s mark – “I” with a water pump – is that of Isidro Pinto Pereira of Porto, registered in 1931 and used successively by:
