[26-1191] Hi all I have a lovely guilloche enameled hairpin with a German makers mark, AW, and a silver mark 935. Any idea who might have made it? Thanks Andy

I found a reference to an Emil August Wagner, whose mark was "AW". He was born in 1829 and became Prussian court jewler in 1856. He might have lived into the post-1886 period when the crown and moon mark came into use, or his name and mark might have become that of a company that outlived him. Good luck, IP: Logged |

Thanks very much for that. I will take that on board in my research. Although you are probably right. Andy IP: Logged |

The maker is Anton Weiß of Pforzheim. He was active from about 1900-1930. I received this info from a kind member on another site. Andy IP: Logged |

These makers sure have a lot to answer for! Had they known what turmoil they would be throwing us collectors into, they would have made sure all their marks were completely different. IP: Logged |
