I bought this beautiful silver enamel brooch today, it was made in the Soviet Union, but I don't know who the maker is. Can anybody throw some light onto it please? The number before the mark is a .9.

Many thanks

Andy

I searched for the maker in Gold and Silverwork of the 15th-20th Centuries by Postnikova-Loseva, et. al., but came up with nothing. I cannot quite figure out what the figure beside the number is—It appears to be some kind of symbol illustration, as it is certainly no letter in either the Roman or Cyrillic alphabets. Additionally, I'm having to take your word on the number being a "9". From my view, it could very well also be an upside-down "6" or "5". All I can say for certain is that it was assayed in Leningrad/St. Petersburg, after 1958.

We'll have to count on sazikov2000 to help from here.

I do, however, really like the stylistic elements on this brooch. The elongated scroll motif is very reminiscent of Charles Osborne's work with Tiffany & Co. Unrelated, of course, but I love to draw connections and references even when unnecessary ;P

Once again, thank you very much for the info. I have a better picture of the mark, hope this is more helpful.
