We have a sterling plate tea service that was given to my mother in 1941 as a wedding gift. The maker was BMCo. Where might we obtain some of the history of this maker? IP: Logged |

Welcome to the forum. Rainwater in the Encyclopedia of American Silver Manufacturers (fourth edition) lists the Breadner Co. Ltd. as the owner of the BM Co. mark. This company, founded in 1903, is located in Hull, Quebec, Canada. They seem to specialize in souvenir spoons, having acquired dies from other Canadian firm through the years. Samuel Breadner was the founder and his son Jack Breadner took over after WWII when Samuel retired. It would be interesting to see some pictures of your tea set as tea sets do not appear to be this companies normal product line. Also I might add that your town has a most interesting Museum with some wonderful objects from America. One cannot enter the room with the American impressionist paintings without feeling warm and happy. IP: Logged |

Thank you very much for your reply to my inquiry about BMCo. I erred in my description. It is a silver platter with cream and sugar servers. I plan to go to the library today to follow up on the information you shared. Your reference to the Westervelt-Warner Museum of American Art was also gratifying. We have been friends of Mr. Warner (now 89) for several years. We are members of the museum and visit it regularly. It is said to be among the top 100 art museums in the world. Best wishes, Herb Neu IP: Logged |
