[26-1336] Can anyone please help with the hallmark of the maker? I suppose he is from Brussels, because in the other hallmark Minerva the letter is A and stands for Brussels?

Yes, that's correct, Brussels, 1832-1869, second standard (.833) silver. The maker is Emile Adolph Bonnevie, born 1840. Technically, he wasn't in Brussels; rather, he appears in the Brussels silversmith's register as a provincial maker from nearby Saint-Josse-ten-Noode (now essentially a suburb of Brussels) from 17 Oct 1864. Around 1878, he formed, with L. N. Bousin, the firm of Bousin-Bonnevie. The firm became known as Bousin Ed. in 1895 (Bonnvie probably died around that time) and was assumed by Delheid Frères in 1911. The pieces I've seen both by him alone and in partnership with Bousin are top quality; I doubt Delheid would have bought them otherwise. Given that his mark was registered on 17 Oct 1864 and the Janus mark stopped usage on 31 Dec 1868, that gives you a narrow four-year range of manufacture: 1864-1868. Hope this helps! IP: Logged |
