[26-1323] Good morning everyone: I am new to this forum but was told this is the best resource out there for silver. I have just recently begun to collect sterling silver items from the 20th century. My first piece is a ladle and I have been trying to identify the mark, but have no luck to date. I'm hoping someone out there might have some information for me. Could anyone help?

Is that curved mark before the crown possibly a crescent moon? If so, it would argue for a German origin. Welcome to our addiction. Everyone's table should be brightened with silver. IP: Logged |

Hi Rian: I never thought the mark next to the crown had any significance, but I just looked at page with German marks and it does closely resemble many of them! However, I thought 925 was mostly a North American grade of silver...is it common in Europe? IP: Logged |

It is now. German producers wanting to sell their silver to the British and Americans used the sterling standard. IP: Logged |

very interesting...I don't know much about my ladle, but I did have a gentleman who monitors your bulletin board tell me he thought it was likely North American, perhaps 1910 or 1920, based on its style... Thank you again! IP: Logged |

The crown & crescent means it was made in Germany after 1888. The mark is still used today. The way your ladle is marked leads me to believe it dates from within the past 25 years. If you can post a picture of the pattern, that would probably help us even more. IP: Logged |

Hi Paul: here is a photo of the ladle, it's about 14 inches in length. The piece belonged to my husband's grandmother, so we think it is at least 50 years old.

Thank you Rian...I think it's beautiful too! Any further thoughts on the age, maker, name of the pattern? IP: Logged |

Hello all: just wondered if Paul or anyone else had any further thoughts on my silver ladle, i.e. a manufacturer or pattern? Sure appreciate the help and comments I've found in this forum, Regards, Jennifer IP: Logged |
