[26-2029] Hello! Please help me to identify the mark on these shot glasses that were given to me. They are probably silver plated. I was not successful trying to research it on my own... It appears to be a horse in a diamond cartouche. The horse appears to be standing on a staff (or a surfboard). The letter "L" is on the left in the diamond and a "G" on the right. Here's the mark: Many thanks! ------------------ IP: Logged |

Cheryl!!! How nice to hear from you... I am back from France, and had last year in London. How are you? I brought back lots of goodies and am back to researching. These little shot glasses were a gift and I'm sure they're plated, but still would like to know where they came from. Now if I could just remember how to post the photo! I have a lot of software downloading to do! ------------------ IP: Logged |

This looks like a French maker's mark used on 950 silver. If so somewhere on the piece there should be a little minerva head stamp. IP: Logged |

I'm doing well, thanks for asking ~ and welcome home! They could be either first or second standard silver, but definitely appears to be a lozenge-shaped maker's mark for solid silver. To my eye looks like L&G with the symbol being some sort of critter over a boat-hook(?).....I don't find it in my meager references. As vathek said, there should be a Minerva-head or possibly a small boar-head or crab. ~Cheryl IP: Logged |

It appears to be Ladoucette & Gavard, Paris. IP: Logged |

Richard has it, Ladoucette & Gavard, mark in use from 1869-86. The Horse on a staff/surfboard is actually a sheep on a gaff hook Please show us a picture when you get posting them down pat. ~Cheryl [This message has been edited by dragonflywink (edited 08-26-2010).] IP: Logged |
