I have seen this same design on brooches several times, and owned one at least once. They are always the same design (with minor variations due to manufacturing technique), always with this same inscription that includes an exclamation point. I am just curious if anybody knows what it means. I find the exclamation point intriguing.

An exclamation point on a coat of arms usually means that the motto has an exclamation at the end. Was this brooch made in Germany? If so, it might be that of a Catholic German academic fraternity whose motto was Veritati et Caritati! If you use your favourite search engine, you’ll come up with the coats of arms of various Catholic German academic fraternities to compare to your brooch. IP: Logged |

Hi - this is a typical studentica related item. In Germany were many studentic associations (fraternities) and still are existing today. Regards IP: Logged |
