Hello all, Been away a long time. Does anyone have any thoughts on these gilt silver knives and forks? They have a great patina of age, and the gilding is very thick, such that there is only a tiny amount of silver showing. The handles are round in profile, and the decoration, aside from the shells, seems to be hand chased. There are no marks on the silver, but one knife blade is marked with a star and "ERLANG"; the other two have a star with an illegible mark. I suspect they are German or Eastern European, and they feel awfully old to me. Any ideas? The knives are just 7 5/8" inches, and the forks are 6 3/4". Brent IP: Logged |

I made a simple internet search. I must say I never heard of him but the search gave an Estonian/Latvian silversmith - his name at this page. Villem Erlang go down to nr 4 from bottom. Don't know if he is the one, but a place to start. IP: Logged |
