[07-0846] This beaker has all the elements of an antique Swedish beaker, from the shape, borders and floral engraving, and on the bottom is the 3 crown mark for Sweden, but I can't make heads or tails of the two middle marks, I think the one on the right is a chattered makers mark, the one on the left I can't quite make out, and of course the 12 is for 12 lod. The 3 crown mark was first used in 1783, so this should also have a date and city mark. Any thoughts appreciated. Thanks

Thanks for explaining that in more detail, small differences can change the meaning. IP: Logged |

According to Rosenberg Vol 4 p479 the bird (?)* head is the Upmark ("'town mark" ?) for Hudiksvall and the master's mark is CB/M in a trefoil for Christoffer Bauman , Meister (Master) 1758, Ratsherr (Councilman) 1794, d. 1797. The date tables in both Rosenberg and in Tardy show I2 as 1791, as stated above by Hose_dk. * From the images below it appears that the figure is the head of a Hare (rabbit) rather than a bird. Thanks for that information Swarter, it has allowed me to come up with an almost identical beaker by searching the net. Unfortunately Tardy doesn't even show a town mark for Hudiksvall. IP: Logged |

and that information I can confirm from the Swedish silver book. Easy when you know where to look. He worked for Chatarina Lampa in 1755. She was the widow of J. Wickman. He married the widow and thereby took over the business in 1758. IP: Logged |
