I bought a very interesting little dish at the Miami Beach Show. It is 4 1/2" in diameter, standing on a ring foot. It seems to be telling a story - An eagle chasing a squirrel? Very dainty & intricate reticulation.

The hallmarks are [H.H.in a rectangle] then, a lion passant looking to the right, a head, and ?

Do you think it is French? I would appreciate any information anyone can give me.

Thanks!

French seems improbable. It is certainly Dutch, but hopefully someone can tell you more!

Definitely Dutch, indicated by the lion passant facing left and the duty mark head. I cannot make out the date letter. It looks like a capital R in circle, which could be 1927 or 1952.

I'm pretty sure the "R" year mark is for 1927. The lion, in this position, indicates the 2nd standard of .833 silver. And the "HH" maker's mark is that of the firm of H. Hooijkaas, Schoonhovense Zilverfabriek of Schoonhoven, used 1924 - 1943.
