I believe this is known as a "stirrup cup" and was used by huntsmen on horseback for a tipple at the beginning or end of the hunt.

The mark is that of Ludwig Neresheimer Co. of Hanau, Germany, founded in 1890. Your stirrup cup dates probably from the first quarter of the 20th century.

This late (20 th Century) German vessel may be more properly termed a "fox head drinking cup," or beaker, as the figure on the bottom of the cup represents the head of a fox (here to be viewed upside down), the object of the foxhunt. The overall form is that of a traditional North German or Scandinavian beaker. The stamp "Germany" indicates it was made for export to the United States, in accordance with US law.

The typical (English?) stirrup cup is made up as only the entire head of a hunt-associated animal (fox, greyhound, hare, foxhound, stag, etc., nose-end down, lip of the cup at the animal's neck), is not capable of standing on end, and is filled and handed to the rider at the start of the hunt; it may be then stored empty in a holder on the saddle until the end of the hunt, when it might be filled again, although it is more typically associated only with the final drink before the hunt. As the cups are unstable on the end, they are often stored upside down, or in special stirrup-cup racks.

This is a similar item from Holland which was auctioned in England two years ago:

"A Dutch Silver Stirrup Cup, modeled as the head of a fox with embossed hunting scene, imported by B Muller, 1910, 11cm, 5oz"
