[26-1980] Hi All, Recently I bought a silver bracelet/bangle as I thought (once cleaned) it would make a nice present for someone I know. I've decided it would be nice to be able to tell them a bit more about it when I give it to them but unfortunately I'm getting a bit stuck finding out much about it as it looks like it's Russian and there's not much info around that I can find on silver from there.
Looking at the marks with a magnifying glass, The left hand mark looks like .6EE in a rectangle with a triangular right hand side The right hand mark looks like a small capital E next to a Russian hammer & sycle mark in a star and then I think 916. From what small info I can find, I think it's Russian from after 1958 and I guess the 916 is the grade of silver but other than that I'm stumped. I know I didn't pay much for it (It's the thought that counts right...lol) but thought it would be nice to try and tell them how old it was or any other info I could find out. Many thanks in advance for all your help Adrian. IP: Logged |

Hi - Your bracelet is not Russian - it is from the former Sovjet Union (USSR). Russian is until 1917, than Soviet Union until 1980, now Russia again. The mark on the left(maker's mark) .6EE is the mark of Juwelirnija sawot Erewan (jeweler's factory Erewan)) from the year 1986.Here is the full name in cyrillic: Ювелирниый завод Главчасювелирпрома Минпрбора СССР,г. Ереван Regards IP: Logged |

Postnikov, Would this have been an actual mass production factory or just a large workshop? I know little about the jewelry trade in Soviet times. Thanks, Dale IP: Logged |

Postnikov, Many thanks for your reply, it's been a great help and has given me more info than I expected after looking for the last few days and discovering how little info there is out there on this sort of thing. Dale, Looking at it, I wouldn't be suprised if it was a mass produced item, the quality of the engraving doesn't really look like it's had that much time taken to do it. I still like it though and I'm sure she will too. Thanks again, IP: Logged |

Hi Dale - It was an industrial produktion of different kinds of jewelry (bracelets, ear rings, powder tins etc.) I think one can speak of mass production in relation to the huge Soviet Union. But the taste, the money they could spend and the claims of the people were much smaller (modest) than the claims of the "newly rich" Russians today. Normal people can not even afford this jewelrys from 1986! Regards [This message has been edited by Postnikov (edited 05-16-2010).] IP: Logged |
