Hallo Postnikov, I do not think that the Netherlands is a 12 Loth mark, or had a 0.75 mark. I think it is a town in south east Germany. You have a picture of the Dutch mark? Kind Regards IP: Logged |

Late reaction from this side but this is no Dutch silver piece. Germany and some other European countries used the number 12(and others)as silver alloy indication. The letter S from the 19th century is correct. The silver mark ( which looks like S) is indicated to the letter J and was a tax mark for old dutch silver items that came back into circulation which did not bear an older tax mark. It can be found as the only mark on some pieces and does not guarantee any particular standard in these cases. In Holland there were used a combination mostly with four silver stamps. Lion, silversmith (initials), year letter (like there is shown) and Minerva head including a letter printed in the helmet indication for the assay office. The shape of the Minerva head changed certainly around 1900. Exactly year I've to find out if you want. The lion was printed with the figure 1 or 2, first and second alloy silver.(925 and 835) Also was printed a little sword as guarantee mark for silver. IP: Logged |

I've found several letters but no S, perhaps in that time they wrote the letter J as looks like letter S ? Have you already tried to look at the map considering towns starting with the letter S in the area of Nurnberg? The website explained the silver standard alloy 12-16 lot and also that in 1884 the half moon and crown was the silver mark for the 800/1000 national silver alloy used in Germany. IP: Logged |
