[01-1118] I have a Sterling Drink Muddler. It is marked Peru 925 and WELSON with a llama figure on the handle which in in the shape of an Incan head. It is all hand made. Is WELSON the artist? Thanks for any help, IP: Logged |

Welson is used as a first name in Peru, though sometimes you see it as a last name. I can't say what it might be on your item but my guess is that it would most likely be the name of the guy who owns the small artisanal foundary that cast it. All over Peru, Ecuador and Bolivia there are large outdoor flea markets that sell items like yours to the tourists - normally for relatively outrageous prices since tourists seldom know how to bargain. You see stall after stall after stall filled with hundreds or thosands of them. They have been doing this for many decades so the world is filled with them. Some are more crudely made than others, some are sterling, some are alpaca (a non-silver alloy) and some are who knows what. I've always had the sense that there isn't much control on exactly what the metal is that is used. IP: Logged |
