[01-1133] Hello, I just purchased this beaker and wondered if anyone could help me determine the age and/or maker? I think it is from Augsburg, late 17th or early 18th century but am not sure and do not possess any good references in this area. Thank you all in advance for any assistance you can render. Regards,

Hello Cliff: The closest mark in Rosenberg's tables for Augsburg is his #185 for 1685-1700. The next most similar is #193 for 1695 - 1700. These are drawn marks and none match exactly, but it is probably a safe bet that your guess of c. 1700 was right on. Welcome to the forums Stuart IP: Logged |

Thanks Stuart, I think based my date guess on Wyler's drawings, which I would be are drawn from Rosenberg as well. I think the piece is right but of course haven't been able to find a photograph of the two marks you mention or anything about the maker as I do not have the Augsburger Goldschmiede book. Thank you for the Rosenberg information, which I do not have access to. Cliff IP: Logged |

Hi, I have just checked the marks that you illustrate in Selig's Augsberger Goldschmiede and cannot find a match, neither town nor maker. Also the marks are not struck in the right place in relation to the 'burin'. Personally I agree that your beaker is late 17th cent. put possibly provincial Scandinavian or Baltic in origin.
