[01-1366] I have a cross with a Taxco mark and a cartouche that is a bell shape with the number 3 in it. Anyone know what it is? Thx Dori Rhodes IP: Logged |

Taxco is a small town in Mexico which has become famous for its silversmithing, started by William Spratling, a North American, in the 1930s. He trained many craftsmen who went on to open their own workshops, or "talleres". The bell mark is in fact a very stylised Mexican eagle! It was in use from the late 1940s to the late 1970s. Different craftsmen or talleres were assigned numbers. But, I'm afraid I don't know who "3" specifically belonged to. IP: Logged |

Oh thank you! vathek also responded that said there were about 20 smiths who worked under the 3 and there should be some initials but there only seems to be another cartouche within the cartouche that is kind of a bird! This is very helpful. Thanks so much! I was in Taxco when I was very young 60s - went all over Mexico when gringos were not really there. I met Dona Rosa, the famous folk potter and she made us some ware. I only have one piece remaining. These things have formed my whole adult life! IP: Logged |

scd is listed under eagle 3 but no name is giving, leaving one to suspect the actual identity may never be known. IP: Logged |
