![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() [01-1454] Hi, I have some sugar tongs, on the inside handle its marked Roberto Boker y o, and on the other side it has writing I can't make out, begins with the letter P, then silver L & S. Can I please get some help identifying what the word I can't make out is? Thanks for the help IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The Roberto Boker inscription is the retailer. Roberto Boker (1843-1912) was a German immigrant who founded an important hardware store in Mexico City. See: www.boker.net The store continues in business to this day in a magnificent building, constructed 1898-1900, see: But I'm afraid I can't help with the other mark, any chance of posting a photo?

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Not good news, I'm afraid. The missing word is Potosi. Although Potosi is a very famous silvermine in Bolivia, "Potosi Silver" was a deliberately confusing name for nickel silver, otherwise known as alpaca. It is a white metal alloy containing no silver. There is a Potosi Silver L&S serving spoon currently on e-bay, INCORRECTLY described as "probably sterling". Judging from the look of this, a date roughly around 1900 might seem possible.
