I am going through my parents belongings to settle an estate. They have a silver tea service that I now am certain is German. It is marked with the half moon and crown, the word Sterling, and a rampant lion as the maker's mark. We were stationed in Germany in the late 40s to early 50s, so this would make sense. We were in Stuttgart for a good deal of the time, and I believe the city symbol is a rampant lion, but I have not double checked. Can you shed any light on the above? IP: Logged |

Your set is almost certainly by Gebrüder Dehyle (Dehyle Brothers, sometimes spelled Dehle) of Schwäbisch-Gmünd, Germany. Founded in 1820, they were very large manufacturers of flatware & hollowware in the 19th & 20th century, and their mark was a rampant lion. I know they were in business through WWII, though I don't know if they still are. IP: Logged |
