I've looked in my American silver marks book, but cannot find the mark that is on a plain pair of small tongs. On the inside of one of the tongs is a frame with a rounded top with what looks like a two part tree sort of salt shaker stylized look with P on one side and M? on the other side Outside the frame at the top are letters spaced E P B and outside the bottom of the mark is A L T. If anyone can give me a clue for this I would appreciate it. IP: Logged |

quote:Welcome to the Forums! Please read over your description again (quoted above). I think if you reword it carefully, we might be able to figure out what you are trying to describe. Remember, we can't see it, and a "two part tree sort of salt shaker stylized look" is a little hard to imagine . Brent IP: Logged |

Sorry, I know my description was weird. It looks like the outside of a Christmas tree shape with little testure on the inside and the bottom part which is separated looks like a square stand. There is a p to the left near the top of this mark and an N to the right and the whole thing is inside a frame with a rounded top. That is the best I could do with the magnifying glass. Sorry this is my first time on the forum and I probably don't know the terminology. The other lettering I descried is at the top and bottom outside the frame. Thanks for helping. IP: Logged |

Hi, Well, that's a bit better. The mark sounds like silverplate. I'm not sure from what country; could be English or Continental. Unfortunately very little is written about European silverplaters, at least not in English. If you can post a picture of the mark at some point, we might be able to take it a bit further. Hope this helps! Brent IP: Logged |

Just a hunch in the absence of a picture: The EPB likely stands for Electroplated Britannia Metal and the frame with the rounded top sounds like the French mark for imported plated ware. IP: Logged |
