![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() [01-1763] I received from my grandmother what I believe is a silver kiddish cup with the initials AMW / FCW / PW and the date 1695 engraved around the cup. On the bottom underside of the cup is the hallmark HW , a small picture of a tree and underneath a zigzagged line. Any information about the source of this item would be appreciated. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The jagged line sound like the Portguese "Assay Office" test. Not sure I can help with the other details. Waylander IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The zigzag assay mark was left by removal of silver for assay in a method used widely in Europe in the 17th and early 18th Centuries. Many of these small cups were made in Augsburg, Germany, whose symbol is a tree. There was a maker in thin time period, Hans Jacob Wildt (w. 1679 - 1733), whose mark was HW in an oval reserve. A clearer photograph would be necessary to confirm this - without it it is only a guess. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Thank you so much for your useful replies. The markings on the cup match the information you provided. I have been doing very extensive work on my family tree during the past year and these items are my only family heirlooms and therefore a part of my family's story. I appreciate your assistance.
