I have a very intricate belt buckle with several hallmarks. I have researched and discovered it was made in the Netherlands in 1902. It has the Perseus (import) mark, the "S" mark that dates it 1902, the Lion and Key Mark; and the one I believe is the silversmith's mark. This is the one I can't decode. It is a W over a CH. Any ideas??

I'm pretty sure the mark you're describing is actually W over GH: the mark of the widow Gerrit Hoogendoorn of Schoonhoven. Gerrit worked 1885-1897, and his widow continued his shop 1897-1908. Perseus' helmet should have letter "M" (the code for the Schoonhoven assay office) on it to confirm this.

Hope this helps!

Thanks so much! You are right...there is an "M" in Perseus' helmet. I looked at that mark several times thinking I should be seeing a letter and never saw it until you gave me the letter. Now, it's as plain as the nose on my face. Do you know where I can get some additional information on the silversmith? It's a beautiful and very intricate buckle.
