[01-2047] HI, I recently inherited a dresser set hall-marked Samurai, Shokai, Yokohama. It has an additional very small mark which I have not been able to make out. The set is hand-hammered in the art neuveau style and hollow. Anybody has any relevant information? I don't know whether this is Sterling or Plate, age or anything. the mirror is the largest I have ever seen. Definitely quality work. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much for reading this and have a Happy and safe, New Year. IP: Logged |

Samurai Shokai was the leading Japanese curio shop in Japan of the time, owned by Yozo Nomura (1870-1965). The shop was established in 1894 at 1-20 Honcho, Yokohama. The company was a retailer, but also supported a number of affiliated craftsmen - it is possible that your small mark may identify the silversmith. IP: Logged |
