Hello all I have recently returned from 2 weeks vacation in New York City and managed to pick up a spoon from a collectibles store. While I do not have a photo yet (apologies as I have lost my cable for my digital camera) the marks are quite straightforward. It is an Austrian-Hungarian piece, featuring the Diana head mark indicating a date of manufacture of between 1886 and 1922. The head mark has the 3 indicating silver purity of .800 and the town mark "A". My first question is therefore; which town is this? My second question is the maker - H<pellet>S in a rectangular cartouche with rounded corners. Any ideas? Thirdly, there appears to be the number "10" punched just below the maker's mark - I confess to being ignorant as to what this means. TIA for any help. Waylander IP: Logged |

A full list of the assay district letters is posted Austrian Hungarian marks. "A" indicates Wien/Vienna (Austria). I don't have the resources to identify the maker, but I know that blakstone, and probably sazikov2000, has the major reference on Viennese makers' marks. IP: Logged |

The maker sounds like Heinrich Schönblüh, listed as a jeweler and active 1905-1924. IP: Logged |
