[01-2672] I need help figuring out where to even start with identifying this fork. It measures 6 1/4 inches in length. The mark to the left is some sort of circular mark with a wreath of bellflower-like design and something like a fleur de lis in the middle-it's fairly rubbed so difficult to determine.

I believe that's the mark for Basel, late 18C to very early 19C, and the A-hand-H presumably the maker. [This message has been edited by FWG (edited 08-23-2008).] IP: Logged |

Exactly so. The maker is Abel Handmann (1715-1788), Master 1745. The Basel city mark in this form was used as early as the 1730's; based on the style of your fork, I'd date it ca. 1750. Nice find! IP: Logged |

Thank you both! This was actually found by my stepson on his first trip out antiquing with me-not a bad first item for his collection! IP: Logged |
