[26-1635] Short breaking historical news? In one of the few books about dutch silver, called "groninger zilver" is the title of this book the name of a little province in the north of the Netherlands. When I looked in the book a found special named spoons like the title of the topic : "Pig spoons". Reason of the name is that from the 18th century (starting around 1730?) on special cattle-markets a price was to win by the local farmer who had the heaviest pig showed at the cattle-market. The spoons has nice patterns, a pig engraved, the short notice of the quantity of pounds (mostly more than 400 pound (no snip please)the pig weighted and also engraved with the farmers name, name of the village and mention the year the price-spoon was given. If there is interest I can soon make some copies of these kind of spoons. IP: Logged |

Hi Marc, I give it a try, it are photo's taken out of the book so the quality is not very good. You can see the patterns and some engravings. Success!

That is MOST interesting. Various agricultural prizes are common enough, but that specific one I've never come across before. Thank you! IP: Logged |
